What is a Family Employed Substitute?

Family Employed Substitutes, or FES for short, is a term that Elder Care Connection uses to describe a domestic service employee.  As defined by the Department of Labor, a domestic service employee is someone who provides services of a household nature in or about a private home.

We use this term because it truly describes what the caregiver is. Our specialists work collaboratively with you to choose the appropriate caregivers.  We pride ourselves on not just referring a caregiver for your family, but someone who will match your loved one’s personality needs.

Each situation is unique. This requires careful thought and planning, as well as patience and understanding. We are confident our approach creates the ideal environment for your loved one to age in place in their own home.

Deciding to employ a Family Employed Substitute from Elder Care Connection has numerous advantages compared to having a licensed home care agency aide.  The advantages include:

  • Freedom to interview the caregiver you hire
  • No restrictions as to what the caregiver can do in your home
  • You will have the same caregiver every day of the week
  • Your caregiver can assist with administering medications

Hiring your own Family Employed Substitute is easy as we’ve simplified this process.  We partnered with a payroll concierge service called All Payroll Solutions and with only a few signatures, APS can make your family member a true employer and compliant on both state and federal levels.  Elder Care Connection and APS collaborate to ensure a seamless transition to becoming an employer.

You can feel confident that our specialists make your loved ones’ experience as well as yours, the best it can be.  We strive to empower our families to provide the best care possible for their loved ones at a reasonable cost.
